CERAMIC COATINGS
coatings vs. ppf:
which one is best for you?
The answer is it depends on the part of the vehicle, and what type of protection is needed for that area. We believe it is important to inform you as the consumer about the strengths and limitations of PPF vs. coatings with accuracy. In doing so, we can deliver the best value.

XPEL Fusion ceramic coatings are a formulated liquid chemical that once applied to your paint and other automotive surfaces, forms a molecular bond and changes the behaviour of the surface.

-
For paint: bonds and shields your paint and prevents scratching by adding cured hardness, repels stains and contamination preventing permanent damage.
-
For wheels: makes the chore of cleaning stubborn brake dust much easier.
-
For plastic trim: reduces fading better and more permanent than conventional trim “dressing” or “conditioner”.
-
For glass: keeps water rolling off and helps visibility, more permanent and stronger bond than conventional methods

Although it is not thick enough to prevent stone chips like PPF, it hardens to 9H-scale hardness (yup, like the pencil). This is 3x the hardness of factory paint or more. This means more scratch resistance and less frequent polishing, especially on darker paint where swirl marks are more visible. This layer also repels surface contaminants and makes washing your paint easier as dirt and contaminants become easier to remove.

Where should I apply ceramic coat and where should I apply PPF?

PPF is a physical clear film, it is thick and durable and is designed to protect your paint from anything that makes physical contact with your paint. Gravel from cars ahead, your shoes stepping in, hockey bags in the boot, bumper taps or “trading paint”, all of these are areas PPF can protect that a coating can not.

If applying both PPF and ceramic coating it is important to know that PPF can not be applied over ceramic-coated paint. The correct order is PPF first, coating second. XPEL Fusion is the only coating engineered to be compatible with XPEL Ultimate Plus PPF after it is installed.
Other ceramic coatings can alter PPF’s self healing properties or harden on top of PPF instead of bond with the PPF. This can result in breaking or “shattering” of the coating. Installing non-Fusion coatings voids all PPF warranty.
Step 1: Paint Correction / Polish
(200-800+, varies on paint condition)
To accurately quote a paint correction means to inspect the paint in person properly. This can not be done over the phone. You may be surprised that even their brand new car needs extensive preparation prior to coating application. Many of these new vehicles travel thousands of kilometers by truck or boat, often exposed to contaminants in open air. Improper washing practices can also introduce small scratches needing removal also.
With our combined 15+ years of experience, we assess, communicate and then proceed with paint correction. We invite you to stop by our facility and see what we’re about.
